Val is a highly experienced clinician, with specialist knowledge of brain injury and neurorehabilitation, paediatrics, amputation and polytrauma. She is a caring and confident case manager who is able to quickly develop effective working relationships with clients, their families, and carers.
Val qualified as a best interests’ assessor (BIA) in 2016.
Val has worked with many people in a variety of community and residential settings with the specialist knowledge and capacity to engage a range of flexible and responsive skills to meet the challenges presented. She has collaborated with a broad range of statutory and non-statutory organisations and has contributed to multidisciplinary working across a variety of contexts including in staff meetings, care planning/case reviews, risk management and case conferences.
Val is a highly skilled assessor and facilitator, experienced in managing complex needs, recognising that complex cases require skilled interventions that encompass both physical and cognitive elements, as well as managing the biopsychosocial impact of the condition with the client and the considerable effect that illness and function has upon families and carers. She has a good understanding of the litigation process and her role as case manager within this environment.
Val has previously worked as a combat medical technician (2004-08) with the Territorial Army. This required her to undergo both physical and clinical training in field medicine. To fulfil this role, Val was expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and self-discipline at all times. It was a position that carried significant risk and involved working for long periods under extreme and challenging conditions. This experience shaped Val’s ability to work well under pressure and provide practical and realistic solutions in demanding clinical situations.
